Character Performer

This role is understandably very popular because who wouldn’t love to play a much-adored Disney character?  However, it is a very competitive role so keep that in mind when you apply.  Also, it’s important to note that ICP’s cannot be cast as ‘face characters’.  I’m sorry if you have your heart set on being friends with Ariel or Belle, but it’s just not going to happen.  No exceptions.  International  Character Performers will be cast as ‘fur’ characters such as Mickey Mouse, Tigger, Pluto etc. (By the way, if you’re wondering what I mean by ‘Being friends with’, check out my Disney Glossary HERE for more information).

When you interview, if you have listed this as one of your top roles, your interviewer may measure your height.  This is because your height will determine which characters you are eligible to be friends with.  Also, all Character Performers are required to pass an audition process.  In the domestic program, CP’s attend these auditions during the application process before they are offered a position.  However, in the International program, you will be offered a position as Character performer, but you will still be required to attend an audition when you arrive.  If you do not pass the audition you will be transferred to a different role.

Disney’s official description of the role is:

Character Performer
  • Portraying specific costumed character roles
  • Working in hot, confining, heavy costumes with limited range of vision
  • Communicating non-verbally to Guests
  • Signing autographs and posing for photographs
  • Interacting with Guests outside and in dining establishments
  • Must pass audition for this role

That’s all I can really tell you about this role at the moment.  Once I’m on my program I will try to find out more information and update this page accordingly.
